In almost all categories, women in Iowa were categorized as very low compared to other states, though numbers were similar to those in Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois and Wisconsin. Suzanne O’Shenken, who compiled the statistic for Iowa, said that Iowa was top in women registered to vote, but 29th in "women elected to public office," 33rd in "employment and earnings" and better in "health and well being." Overview of Status of Women in the States (RIB) Six-page summary of The Status of Women in the States, 2002 edition. 1707 L Street, NW, Suite 750 Washington, DC 20036Phone: (202) 785-5100 Fax: (202) 833-4362 iwpr(bleep)iwpr.org http://www.iwpr.org/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Medical Malpractice and Harassment ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ An anonymous source has warned us that some gynecologists are using the opportunity of vaginal examinations like pap smears to impregnate unsuspecting patients using artificial insemination. They surely have opportunity and means, and assuming they are affiliated with an organization which promotes itself as having "loving parents waiting to adopt," for which they charge huge fees, they have motive as well. Any woman who has experienced an unwanted pregnancy recognizes that it is an harassment. Since organizations of that ilk have a track record of feeling they have a right to control what goes on in a woman’s uterus, it is no huge shock to learn that they think they have the right to impregnate naïve women and expect them to complete the pregnancy because of all the falsehoods they perpetrate about abortion. The alleged situation occurred at the VAMC Women’s Clinic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In this case, they had the preposterous stupidity to impregnate a women who had been celibate for 26 years precisely because she did not want to deal with an unwanted pregnancy, and who in addition knew a way to cause an early miscarriage without the need for medical intervention. We have to believe that if a couple is barren, some higher power has determined that they should remain childless, certainly, their participation in a scam like this would convince us that this is probably because they are inferior and evil and should never have contact with children in any case. The amount of contempt we feel for those anti-choice organizations has risen to new heights. We recommend extreme caution in selecting a gynecologist . We ouselves will never get another pap smear without a friend to observe or mirrors so we can watch what the medical personnel are doing, and assure that they only take a sample OUT and do not put anything IN. In this case, the two technicians taking the sample were seen to enter the vaginal area at least 3 to 4 times. Once would have been sufficient for a pap smear. If you have had a similar experience, contact vamalpractice(bleep)go.com. 60 Minutes on November 3 covered the FBI’s investigation of Larry Ford, an Irvine, California doctor‘s involvement with germ warfare, which they thought probably included former girlfriends and even women who just blew him off at parties. These women had strange medical symptoms. Ford had worked for the Army and had CIA links. He had also worked for a bio-warfare force in South Africa intended to control blacks using germ warfare. Ford was using an Aides Research Project and a Baldness Project as covers for his germ warfare research when he committed suicide. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bush and War ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Excerpt from Sarah H. Wright, News Office, reviewing veteran journalist :Helen Thomas speaking at the Bartos Theater in November: "I have never covered a president who actually wanted to go to war. Bush's policy of pre-emptive war is immoral - such a policy would legitimize Pearl Harbor. It's as if they learned none of the lessons from Vietnam," she said to enthusiastic applause. ..Thomas referred early and often to her own hatred of war, quoting from poets and politicians to bear down on Bush and his colleagues. I have pondered Bush’s tactics, and believe there is some totally unrelated reason for his policy. I think he is trying to draw attention away from something else: failures in Afghanistan or our inability to catch Osama Bin Ladin, the sad state of the US economy, or perhaps he wants to create a new generation of war heroes to come home and run for office and keep those pesky women who went to law school from running. Women in the military are mostly in support positions and rarely get battlefield promotions or get hero status, prerequisites for automatic election of anyone who wants to run. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cazenovia College Update ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wish to inform you of the happenings on our campus since the events of this spring. As I have already let you know, the former CFO, Jay Jackler, was fired and was paid TWO YEARS pay. The college had been negotiating with the primary accuser, and has offered her small sums of money to go away. At the present time, she still works for the college. This month the EEOC will be making their investigation into this matter. Should they agree that the accuser has a valid case, she will be allowed to take her case against the college and the individual to court. The accuser is only making a lawsuit to pay for legal expenses, which will force the college to admit that they were wrong. DSeamans(bleep)CAZENOVIA.EDU From an anonymous source: Jay Jackler was recently reported to be working as an accountant in Boca Raton, Florida, where he lives with his parents. His wife is divorcing him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ W.A.S.H. Rag Milestone ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I had hoped to be putting out the anniversary issue on a new computer, but all attempts to do this were futile. But in any case, having reached this anniversary is something of a triumph, working with limited resources and often with other pressures making it difficult to get it out and to keep the web site up-to-date. I think that the most frustrating thing has been the damage done by hackers. Some of the incorrect information they have put into newsletters is virtually impossible to correct without extensive research, which I don’t have time to do. I worry constantly that hackers are interfering with my e-mail to pass on the identity of women placing complaints to their employers. I do not pass that information on to anyone without their permission Recently, I have been infuriated because an anti-choice organization has put a banner on the yahoo group site to create the impression that any fetus is a baby. I would like to ask anyone going to my yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WomenAgainstSexualHarassmentNational to look at the back issues who sees this offensive banner, to go to the help area and place a complaint of the ad in the appropriate area. Sometimes there is a link for comments placed directly above the ad. However, there have been triumphs, occasions when we were able to pass on information that people found useful, e-mails from people who found useful information on the web site, and times when people have given us recognition, as recently when some students at Lincoln University in England wrote a paper on Women Against Sexual Harassment. It keeps a person motivated to keep going and to improve what you have already done. I think it is just a matter of keeping picking away at the problems. I have been watching the PBS series about "The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow," and there are a lot of parallels between the Black’s fight for equality and women’s fight for equality. They never gave up, they kept fighting and each battle they fought resulted in them getting new rights. The loss of freedom fighters like Paul Wellstone and Patsy Mink is a blow, but we have to keep our priorities straight and not give up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Finding a Lawyer dr. michael torrey attorney at law specializing in all types of sexual harassment/discrimination cases. just contact me confidentially for a FREE one-on-one consultation and legal advice about your particular situation.
